Milk Kefir Recipes and...Weight loss?

As promised in yesterday's post, today I'll share links to sites with recipes for kefir. Before moving there, however, I would like to add to the suggestions I gave for using milk kefir and tell you about our current favorite kefir smoothie:

I use the immersion blender.
For a single serving: 1/2 banana, 1/2 tsp. vanilla, 1 TBS. coconut sugar or real maple syrup or honey. I put these in a cup and add 1/2 kefir, and fill the rest to 8 oz. with whole raw milk or (my favorite), whole coconut milk which has been well stirred.
Blend thoroughly with the immersion blender and it's ready to drink.
You can use a regular blender as well.
Try adding other fruits as they come into season. We've also added carob powder or our homemade peanut butter...It's all good!

Here are those promised links...fluffy kefir pancakes...and kefir cheesecake...and a variety of smoothies. There are more, so many more...but these should give you a really good start. Kefir can also be blended into soups and used in place of milk in most recipes.

Oh, and by the way...Did you know that milk kefir is a weight loss tool? It is...check out this and this and this.  I didn't mention this from the start because eating for nutrition density is the focus of traditional food preparation and food choices. Weight loss comes to many who make the change to eating traditionally, simply by eliminating processed, refined foods, sugars, artificial oils and sweeteners. The loss is often much slower and healthier than that given by fad diets and eating changes that have been proven over time to be detrimental to true health. But the improvement in digestion that comes about from eating foods alive with enzymes and other probiotics also aids in proper weight management.

I hope you do try making your own milk kefir. The more I read about it, the better it sounds. We are enjoying it here, and I do believe it is increasing my energy level. I want to try to add a little to my diet each day.
